How to reset or clear faults codes on a Freightliner Cascadia?

How to Check and Clear Fault Codes on Detroit DD Series Engines (2018-2023+)

Depending on your truck’s year and engine setup, the process for clearing fault codes might vary—or may not be possible at all. Keep in mind that active faults cannot be cleared until the underlying issue is resolved. For Freightliner Cascadias with Detroit DD engines, follow these steps to access and clear fault codes (if your vehicle is equipped with this feature):

Preliminary Requirements

Before beginning, ensure the following:

  1. The truck is stationary.
  2. The transmission is in neutral.
  3. The parking brake is engaged.

Step-by-Step Instructions

The entire process is completed using the steering wheel controls:

  1. Access the Menu

    • Press the ↵ (Enter) button on your steering wheel.
    • Scroll through the top menu icons until you locate the wrench symbol.
  2. View System Modules

    • Press OK to enter the menu.
    • Scroll through the screens (usually on the second screen) until you see a list of modules such as ABS, ACM, CGW, etc.
  3. Identify the Faulty Module

    • Look for a module with a hazard triangle icon next to its name. This indicates it has active fault codes.
  4. View Fault Codes

    • Press OK on the module with the hazard triangle.
    • The display will show the fault codes related to that system.
    • Scroll through the list to review all codes.
  5. Clear the Fault Codes

    • After reviewing the fault codes, follow the on-screen prompts to clear them for that specific module.
    • If faults exist in multiple modules, press the ↵ button to return to the module list.
    • Scroll to the next module with a hazard triangle and repeat the process.

Important Notes

  • Not all Freightliner Cascadia models have this fault-clearing feature.
  • If fault codes persist after attempting to clear them, the problem likely remains unresolved and will require further inspection.

If you're unable to clear the fault code or unsure how to fix it, consider using our scan tool. It allows a diesel technician to remotely connect to your truck from anywhere in the USA for expert diagnostics: RTD Scan Tool + Remote Diagnostics

6. Repeat for Other Modules

  • If faults exist in multiple modules, press the ↵ button to return to the module list.
  • Scroll to the next module with a hazard triangle and repeat the process.
